Day 3

Mon. Jul. 11, 2011: Thunder Bay, ON ~ Winnipeg, MB (Tues at 4:40ish am our time)

We’re in Winnipeg! And still, it’s much too late. Our only saving grace is that it’s an hour behind. That doesn’t mean we’re any less exhausted.

Still, I can taste victory.

No Moose throughout the entire remote north section of Ontario. And we crossed the provincial border and it was like the wilderness just ceased to exist. No birds, even, except giant crows, a deer (in MB) and a little mole/mouse that crossed the road in Kenora and got knocked down by the truck behind us.

We saw Terry Fox, Sleeping Giant and Kakabeka Falls briefly in Thunder Bay (and did 3 Geocaches).

Further west, we saw the beefy Gorilla and the Provincial Fort, and Blue Lake Provincial Park in Vermilion Bay, and later, Huskie the Muskie in Kenora…

Once in Manitoba, we drove into a lovely sunset and a city that sprang up out of the fields.
The later we drove (West), the lighter it got.

The Peg: one missed turn and we were forced to detour for a ½ hr – through construction, of course (because this always happens to us), and we saw more city.

More late jobs for Jer and research for me after a late meal for us in the hotel lounge.

Tomorrow, we are going to be better off. Only 7 hours. At least Jer’s work is almost done…
