Day 1

Sat. Jul. 9, 2011: Barrie ~ Sudbury, ON (Sun at 4:00am)

I updated Facebook before I left. It says:

Bye, bye work and loved ones for 3 weeks. Tonight, we hit the road.

We left much later than we’d planned. I was late getting out of work. Jer was late doing his things. We still had to pack the car. We had been aiming for 2pm.
It was more like 8pm.

Then we had to drive to Bracebridge first to drop off something for the friend, Ian. The night was moonless and so dark and I held my breath the whole time while we were detouring through back county roads across Muskoka to get back to the Trans-Canada at Parry Sound. I expected every black bend in the road to lead us to Murphy’s Law or Hubris incarnate, in the form of a moose or accident, to humble us, to quell our dream before we’d even begun and remind us that we were not meant to fly too close to the sun.

We’ve thwarted misadventure thus far.
We are FREAKIN’ HERE! On our way.
But it is sooo damned late.

This was one of my worst concerns for today.
It was so crucial for us to sleep.
And now, I won’t…Again.
13hrs+ driving tomorrow. I have to share in it.
I’m done…
